One of only a few Irish single malts to be bottled at the 16 year “sweetspot”, Knappogue 16 has enjoyed tremendous success in Ireland among whiskey aficionados and connoisseurs. A step-up from the 14 year old, this is an ideal gift for a whiskey-loving friend.
Our experts say: This 16 year old has spent most of its life maturing in ex-bourbon barrels, and has been exposed to former sherry casks for a further 18 months. One of our own favourites in the Titanic portfolio, we often find ourselves adding 2-3 drops of still water to allow the full bouquet of aromas to express itself. Clove and cinnamon as the primary definitive fragrances are followed by a full hit of dried fruits – raisins, apricots, dates, & figs, with some distant chamomile adding an x-factor. Extremely smooth on the palate, gorgeously fruity and with gentle citric aromas that barmen will recognise as the perfect base for a sweet Manhattan. Strong manuka honey and orange peel bring up the rear. Those spices from the nose linger right through to a strong finish indicating an extremely good malty base – aged to perfection.
