Our story begins with the fertile soils and mild oceanic climate of Southern Ireland, recognised as one of the best places in the world to grow malted barley.
Ornabrak Single Malt Gin is one of a small number of gins internationally which distils its own base spirit. This spirit is made from 100% Irish malted barley, sourced principally in the South East of Ireland from contracted growers, before being malted in Cork, and subsequently milled, milled, mashed, fermented and copper pot distilled in Skibbereen, West Cork.
Five botanicals, five times pot distilled
Starting with an initial palate of almost 30 botanicals, this was carefully narrowed down to just five, each individually chosen to create a harmonious balance with our unique Irish Single Malt base spirit.
Common Juniper (berry)
The principle ingredient of a gin – Ripe female blue / black cone resembling a berry
Aroma: Pinene (resinous, woody, piney with green citrus, spicy and sweet notes)
Organic and unwaxed
Origin: Spain, Argentina, USA
Aroma: Tangy citrus, zesty, fresh, bright and crisp
Lemon Verbena (leaf)
Origin: Morocco, Paraguay
Aroma: Pure lemon, earthy, oriental spicy, slightly grassy
Douglas Fir (needles)
Origin: West Cork, Ireland
Aroma: Woody, earthy, piney, spicy, tropical citrus, warm, sea salt
Garden Angelica (root)
Origin: Poland, Belgium
Aroma: Strong and pungent with chocolate, bitter, herbal, earthy, fresh rain, nettle notes
Nose: Rich and creamy nose with underlying juniper, malt, pine, subtle spice and citrus.
Palate: Smooth and complex flavours unfolding with juniper, vanilla, pink peppercorn, and earthy citrus.
Finish: Long and persistent
As a single malt gin, Ornabrak can be enjoyed neat in a tumbler glass
Gin & Tonic:
Ornabrak pairs perfectly with a premium tonic water, ideally with low sugar content (such as Poacher’s Classic or Fever-Tree Light Tonic Waters). We like to garnish with a lemon zest or a slice of granny smith apple.
Ornabrak works wonderfully in martini styled cocktails. One of our favourites is The Single Malt Vesper (An Irish take on the Classic Vesper Martini)
